Matthew and Brittney's wedding in Watertown, Wisconsin was a fun, laid-back day! They started at his family church, Trinity Lutheran in Watertown, and we made a couple extra stops for the day: Riverside Park, Mullen's Dairy Bar for some ice cream (best idea ever), and then a quiet stop at the site of his grandma's grave before they headed to their reception at Watertown Country Club for dinner and a whole lot of dancing!
These two met at work. While visiting Matt's grandpa, they were encouraged to make the most of every moment and to not put things off. A couple days later at Brittney's parents' house, we went for a walk and rehashed Grandpa's conversation, concluding that we should get married. Matt's asking Brittney's parents' hands was important to both of us, so that night—even though it was only the second time that Matt had been around Brittney's parents—Matt asked for their blessing over Culvers custard. So , we both knew the engagement was coming, but we both wanted Brittney to be surprised. That made things a little challenging. Brittney had never had her finger sized for a ring, so once back in South Dakota, we went to a jewelry store where we could get that done and where Brittney could drop a few hints about her perfect ring. Matt made mental notes, but didn't like anything that he saw at the store that night. The next day, Matt snuck away from work early and went to another jewelry store. He was surprised to find the exact ring he had been imagining right away! That week he kept the ring hidden, but made a few fake proposals (getting down on one knee romantically and then tying a shoe, taking out a ring box with his class ring in it and asking her the question of whether or not she liked that ring, etc.) Back before we'd started dating, Brittney and Matt played many practical jokes on one another (our form of flirting, I guess), and one afternoon Brittney had created a PA having Matt report to the school's principal's office. So, the morning of the proposal Matt had talked to the principal and asked if he could borrow his office at the end of the day. It was about a month before the high school's prom, and Matt said he was planning on asking Brittney to prom in a cutsey way. On being granted the use of the office, Matt created a PA having Brittney report to the Principal's office after school. There he waited for her with flowers and another "fake" proposal that ended in Brittney's being asked to prom. (She said yes, BTW.) To her surprise Matt kept talking about how blessed his life has been with and because of Brittney, and then he revealed the ring hidden behind the bouquet and asked for her hand in marriage. (She said yes, BTW.)
